CAI publishes an essay written by Joëlle Long, CAI Legal Adviser, on the sources of international law concerning a child's right to grow-up in a family. During a seminar organized by the Committee for Intercountry Adoption on The reception of abandoned children around the world: a comparison of legal instruments an authoritative foreign speaker disoriented the audience by stating that "there is no right for a child to grow-up in a family enviroment within international law." Starting from the observation that a child's right to a family constitutes an essential trait of the Italian legal system, the author analyses the foreign speaker's thesis and motivations to reach the opposite conclusion.

The essay is available only in Italian
